What are you afraid of?

MY thoughts and notes form Vincent Byrne’ Journey of the Entrepreneur session, 13/5/13

“The Best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the other best time is NOW!”- Chinese Proverb
-there is never a “good time”, the time will NEVER be JUST right.

  • Well, what are you afraid of?
  • Is it true?
  • Are you certain it is true?
  • How do you feel when you believe it is true?
  • Who would you be without that limiting belief?

(Being willing is not enough, we must DO!)

Your Actions don’t lie.

  • Not taking action simply means it is not a priority to you right now.

Are you “waiting”, are you “afraid” of something, or is it easier NOT to choose to DO SOMETHING?

  • Action is the only answer (Skydiving, fear of heights? Grab the initiative!)

Exercise:

  1. What 1 thing are you not taking action on?
  2. What are you saying to yourself?
  3. Which is the more difficult of these two when navigating, or trying to get past an obstacle?;
  1. Approaching it when in motion?
  2. Trying to get around it from a standing start?

What one first next step could we take to get going?

If this is so important, why is something else taking priority?

Fear of Rejection

Wikipedia;
“The word “rejection” was first used in 1415.The original meaning was “to throw” or “to throw back”. Rejection may mean:
Social rejection, in psychology, an interpersonal situation that occurs when a person or group of people exclude an individual from a social relationship.”

  • what are you afraid of?
  • Is it true?
  • Are you certain it is true?
  • How do you feel when you believe it is true?
  • Who would you be without that limiting belief?

You are latching onto the fear of a “NO”.
What if they said yes?
You have to go through the No to get to the Yes. There is someone out there looking for what you have and if you don’t bring it to them, how will the find it?

This is not about you!
“No” is just one result.
We put a meaning on it!
No is No, that is ok.
It is normal.
You don’t know what is going on with them.

Understanding their position:

  • Do you need it?
  • Can you afford it?
  • IS now a good time?

What we used to call in Sales, the MAN, the person with the money, authority and need.

If you believed what you had to talk about was special, would you make that call, get past that block, do what you are avoiding doing?

Focussed energy is more likely to give a result.

  1. Very good. Over the years I have spoken to a lot of people and excuse after excuse is given for inaction. Logical reasons to avoid stepping out from the crowd and saying “I took a chance”. Derek Daly the Irish racing driver was told by his Father to buy the racing car, he had the rest of his life to pay it off if it didn’t work, equally, he had the rest of his life to live f it did!
